Random Proof We Are Still Alive!

I knew that the adjustment to working full-time was going to be tough...but I never knew how much it would zap from me!  I would open the blog, look at the page, and sigh because I was just too tired to even put two words together!  But my energy is returning as we adjust to this new way of life...and I'm home with an asthmatic Tater...so I decided to catch you up with some iPhone pictures!

We packed away the last of the sippy cups...my babies are growing up!

Our school built a new playground and we went to test it out.
Tater climbed like crazy...

and Sassy couldn't wait to slide!

Bruiser has spent some time hiding...it's hard being a 4-year-old boy in a neighborhood of big kids!

Papa and Mimi came for a weekend visit.
Bruiser and Papa had some quality Leapster time.

This picture was from the first day of school.
We had gone outside for pictures and when we came inside, Bruiser and Sassy decided it was too early for them!  Luckily, they are doing a bit better with our new schedule!

Sassy started her dance class...and I love the tongue hanging out!

We've had a particularly tough week.  There are issues with Sassy and the therapy and services she needs and the school department not agreeing.  And then there is Tater and her asthma...which has included round-the-clock breathing treatments and multiple doctor visits...all in hopes of avoiding a trip to the ER.
So, here we go...!

Remembering...

Ten years ago...

...we didn't own a house.

...we didn't have children.

...we were newlyweds.

...we lived far from our family.

...we watched our world change as the towers fell.

Daddy was in graduate school at Brown University.  All the grad students on his floor gathered in one lab around a small back and white tv to watch as the second plane hit and then as the towers fell.  I remember I couldn't reach him because he was in a different room and had no cell phone.  How times have changed.

I was teaching reading at a local school in our city.  I remember not believing it when someone reported that a plane hit one of the towers.  Then parents began to pick up their students early and I began to take it more seriously.  At lunch, we all gathered in the kindergarten room to watch the news coverage.  By this time three more planes had crashed and the towers had fallen.  We had to tear ourselves away from the tv to return to the students who hadn't left.  I remember walking out to my car to call my father, who was and is a newspaper editor.  In his frantic state, he assumed I was my sister and told me to just stay inside.  Later he didn't even recall me calling him.  I remember walking back into the school and noticing how clear the sky was and how silent everything was.  Of course it was...there were no planes flying anymore.

I remember leaving and coming home to sit in front of the tv watch the news coverage.  I remember watching it for hours.  I also remember waking up in the middle of the night to find Daddy sitting in the living room watching more...he couldn't sleep.  It was hard to not watch.  It was hard to go to work the next day and not be able to know all that was happening as it happened.

I remember the frantic calls from my mother.  She didn't know I had called my dad...because he didn't remember me calling.  No one knew we were okay in our state 6 hours away...on the other side of the destruction.  I remember the feeling of panic that all the roads to get "home" were closed and we were stuck 6 hours away.  I remember that feeling of fear.  I remember that feeling of the unknown.

Now, today as we remember that time, I struggle to explain to my six-year-old the events and the meaning of that day.  Luckily the four- and two-year-old are too little to understand.  Tater, being the Drama Mama that she is, takes everything to heart.  So we have to be careful.  We are limiting her tv exposure, talking just little in simplistic terms, and treasuring our family moments today.

We are remembering 9/11 in our own way.

Randomness

Took this the night before Tater left for Papa and Mimi's.
She was all snuggled in our bed for one last night of Mommy-Daddy cuddles!

Daddy took Bruiser to go test drive cars (a lllllllllllllllllloooooonnnnnnngggggg story!) so Sassy had some fun playing in the water in the bathroom sink.

She was there for about an hour...partly because she was having so much fun and partly because she couldn't get down by herself!

We planted an herb garden on the 4th...with lots of little hands helping!

Love this plant...lamb's ear...it's so soft and so much fun to "pet"!

Such a face of a bruiser!

Here Are The Pictures To Prove...

...that our children are still alive!

It's been a bit since I have posted pictures of the kids and I admit it was just pure laziness!  Our computer was sooooooooooo slow that I couldn't be bothered.  But the newest addition to our electronics collection arrived on Thursday and is super speedy and made uploading photos a breeze!  So enjoy a bit of a catch up with our kids!

 Crazy Head!
(Don't worry...she got a haircut today!)
Bruiser showing off his new ball pit.
(Clearance at Target - $7!!!  Score!!)
 That's my 6-year-old!
Poor Bruiser!
He had just had a run-in with the glider swing on the swing set and had a banged up mouth and  tongue.
Bedtime is the worst...it hurts too much for him to suck his thumb and the screaming goes on forever!
It might be harder on the tired Mommy and Daddy!

 Cheese!

Trying to catch the crew watching the clouds...not all were cooperating!

Baby F having a lollipop like the big kids.

It's starting to feel like spring around here!

Hello...

...we're still here...drifting along...between meltdowns and snuggles!

It seems that I hit a blogging lull every spring.  It's not that we aren't doing lots of things.  And it's not that my kids aren't being super-cute or super-funny.  It's just that I am SO busy and SO entertained by those super kids that I find it hard to find the time to sit and write and post pictures!

We are mid-home projects.  The next few weeks are bringing a new kitchen floor and a new stove...yeah!  There might be an up-coming visit from Papa and Mimi which is sure to result in lots of pictures.  Easter isn't far off and that always requires more of the obligatory photo shoots.  So there is hope for the blog!

For now, I'm off to clean up the kitchen, start some laundry, do a few other random chores, and settle down with some school work and watch a bit of TV.  The kids are already cuddled in bed with heavy eyes and I am longing to enjoy my alone time!  Maybe...just maybe!...I'll post a few snapshots of the munchkins tomorrow!

Randomness At The House!

Ever have one of those days where the world takes over and you can't seem to get ahead? That is pretty much every day in The House of Sprout...but Saturday was pretty extreme and I thought I should share a few visions with the bloggy world!
The pile of cuddle blankets on the couch...

Cheerios on the slide we keep inside the house when it's too cold to play outside...

Remnants of the cupcakes that certain children were told NOT to eat...

The groceries Daddy so helpfully carried in from the car so I could rest my shoulder...

***************************
Then some randomness...

The snowman Daddy and the kids built
(using their snowman kits from Auntie M and Uncle C!)

Tater rolling the head!
(Love the expression!)

And the dinosaur dirt cups I made for Bruiser's party...there was even a dinosaur "egg" (aka gumball) buried in the dirt!

Randomness...

It's midway through January and life in the House of Sprout has not slowed down one bit! I keep waiting for the break in the clouds...but it never seems to appear!

Tater has returned and is back to school. Her tantrums are super nasty...I think she may have turned 13 while she was visiting Papa and Mimi! She is really having a hard time being separated from Papa...maybe we should just give into both their wishes and let her move in with him...or not so much! (If she could read this, she would say "You're so rude!!!!"...yeah, that's what she says...at 5!!!)

Bruiser is coughing again and spent most of last night entertaining me in my bed. He's tucked snuggly (with his weighted blanket) into his bed right now...but I'm not holding my breath. Right now tomorrow is a blank calendar day with thoughts of checking out the new neighborhood coffee place with a friend...but we may be heading to the doctor with Bruiser instead.

And total randomness...but my husband just asked me what was going on with my hair...it may have something to do with the fact that I haven't had a haircut since JUNE!!! Maybe it's not working for me anymore!

Oh, and Papa and Mimi bought a new house today. I would let them share this news with all of you (aka our family) but it seems my brother already made the announcement on Facebook...so the secret is out! Tater is very concerned that she will not be able to find her Papa at his new house...which maybe some of the root of the tantrums...she may end up in therapy yet!!!

And Sassy is busy being, well, sassy! She was knocked over last night outside a restaurant and has a fat lip...not unusual for my balance-challenged child! And I love this picture of her...no bum to hold up her jeans!

Have a happy Wednesday!

Weekend Catch-Up

Snow was predicted for the East Coast so we postponed getting Tater back from Papa and Mimi's for another day...and the snow is falling as I type! Hopefully it will pass through the night and the roads will be clear in the morning...because I miss my big girl!

So this morning Sassy and I headed to her therapy group while Daddy and Bruiser had a lazy morning. When we got home we Skyped with Pop-Pop and Memaw so Bruiser could open his birthday gift from them...ah, technology!

Then after lunch out, a major meltdown from Bruiser, a nap for Mommy, Sassy, and Bruiser, we survived a second meltdown and managed a trip to the grocery store. Bruiser's cake just came out of the oven and both little ones are tucked into bed with thoughts a birthday day tomorrow!

Here's my almost-four-year-old curled up reading on the couch tonight. I can't believe how fast the time has gone! Four years ago tonight, Daddy and I were anxiously awaiting his arrival and couldn't wait to meet him! He is still the best cuddler and sweetest little love you have ever met...meltdowns aside! I love his imagination and and his expressions...and the fact that he agreed not to get any older when I asked him to stay three!

Here is Sassy grazing in the fridge! We locked the fridge with the other two but the lock wore out and we never replaced it...oh, the freedoms the third child gets!

And here is the success of the week! I have been eyeing "learning towers" or "kitchen helpers" for the past year or so but never had the money to spend on one! Then we found the plans on-line to build one and Daddy went to work. For about $20-30 in wood and an afternoon of cutting and screwing, Daddy was able to make this amazing piece of equipment for Sassy! Now she can stand at the island safely and the battles over her sitting have come to an end. This thing is AMAZING! She can climb in and out herself, the sides protect her from falling, and the platform is easy to raise and lower so it will grow with her! And not only that, Daddy made it look pretty with his stain job! LOVE IT!
